A week I am considering for November: four days in Singapore, then a short flight north to Fukuoka for three. Nothing is booked. The idea is to keep each day to one area so the trip does not turn into a commute, and to leave the afternoons loose.

    Considering this for the first evening — it is close to Marina Bay and open late, which suits a day that starts with a long flight.

    Arriving from Seattle, so this is a long first leg and most of the day is gone by the time I land. Planning nothing for the evening beyond getting into the city.

    Starting at Marina Bay because it is the easiest area to walk on a first full day, and it is a short MRT ride from most places I would stay.

    Ten minutes on foot around the water from Marina Bay Sands. Worth doing once.

    A hawker centre rather than a restaurant, which is the point — this is the food I would actually go to Singapore for. Considering lunch here because it is close to Chinatown.

    Afternoon in one neighbourhood instead of crossing the city twice. Haji Lane is here if the heat is manageable.

    November is the wet season, so this is the day I would move if it rains. Otherwise a slow morning before the flight north.

    Singapore to Fukuoka is about six and a half hours. Fukuoka Airport is unusually close to the centre — two subway stops to Hakata — which is part of why I would go this way round.

Day 06

    Half a day out of the city by train. Late November is around when the maple colour is supposed to be good here, which is the main reason for considering these dates at all.
